Is it ok to drive my car on gasohol as it is very difficult to find anywhere in Phuket that sales 95 octane petrol? I will be driving my car from Bangkok to Phuket and the last time I drove from Bangkok to Phuket in my wife’s Benz it was impossible to get 95, and we had to use gasohol
Did you ask your tuner? If you fill her up with pure gasohol, I think there may be knocking sound out of your engine. So, I suggest that tuner can help you to get the engine ready for pure gasohol. You may get less output but at least you don't have to take chance for 95 octane. Good luck
What standalone ECU are you running? Tell the tuner to detune the ECU; retarding the engine and lowering the boost, to suit gasohol when running on the low-boost mode. You leave the high-boost mode for running on 95 octane petrol or avgas. Unless you drive hard, you simply lower the boost a bit and use gasohol. I don' t think it will damage your engine. However, if you are a hard-core driver, it may not be a good idea to run on gasohol. As 95 octane petrol is hard to find, an alternative I can think is to use octane booster with gasohol. You will get slightly higher octane, possibly 97-98 than 95 octane petrol. Don' t let gasohol sit in the tank for long time since alcohol yields more water and moisture gradully. It can rust and damage your fuel system. For your own sake, try to use and fill new gas frequently.
Retuning your car (ECU) to match 95 gasohol seems to be the best solution -*- Be prepared for power loss -*-
Thanks guy for all the tips and tricks I will ask the tuner to reprogram the HKS F-Con Pro to accept the gasohol, I have also used the octane booster many times (2 to 3 bottles per tank) so I will continue to do the same.
the knock sensors will function correctly and will immediately dial back timing advance when/if knocking shows up. That feels like an instantaneous loss of power. The engine doesn't quite like it would do with overboost or hitting the rev limiter but it would definitely be noticeable. That should be no problem and will save the engine.just keep your foot a little light on the loud pedal .
My wife says there is still one garage in Phuket that is selling 95 octane fuel so i will take it easy from Bangkok to Phuket and then hopefully fill up with 95 when I arrive home.
I guess I have no choice but to drive my car conservative and live with gasohol Would it hurt my car if every now and then I drive at 6 to 7000 rpm at 1.2 boost for example when a Evo or a Phuket Porsche wants to have a race and I need to turn up the gas to blow them away + อ้างถึง ตอบกลับ
