    0:32that's very different from cars at bills elsewhere and that car is so good that
    0:37Honda exports it back to Japan for sale there
    0:40the car is the honda accord coupe and it's a very special honda indeed the
    0:49first thing you notice about this Honda is it's beautiful body work
    0:53the accord coupe looks so harmonious you wonder if it wasn't originally designed
    0:57to be a two door and as with the prelude before it
    1:01honda designers have found the perfect balance between sporty looks and good
    1:05taste
    1:06this is not a car for boy or girl racers
    1:09it's for ladies and gentlemen funny thing about the coop
    1:13it's built only in Marysville Ohio so Japanese buyers have to settle for
    1:18exported left hand drive American versions
    1:21well it looks all new on the outside the coop is in accord which is not a bad
    1:26thing for any car to be it sits on the same 102.4 inch wheelbase is the accord
    1:32four door and hatchback and like it's two siblings the coop comes in DX and LX
    1:37I trim
    1:39prices range from eleven thousand five hundred dollars to fifteen thousand
    1:43dollars
    1:44the DX great car comes with a 90 horsepower carbureted version of this
    1:482-liter 4-cylinder this
    1:50lxi engine is fuel injected and makes 120 horsepower
    1:55both engines have three valves for each cylinder and a single overhead cam
    2:00in addition to its top grade lxi trim our accord coupe had the optional
    2:054-speed automatic transmission good as the number sent
    2:09on we were unimpressed if not disappointed by the cars acceleration
    2:13it took 18 . four seconds to coax our car to the end of the quarter mile
    2:18speed was 75 miles per hour 0 to 60 took 11.4 seconds
    2:23that's not slow but it's not what we call fast either
    2:27indeed part of the blame goes to the cars automatic transmission which seemed

    3:57includes an easy-to-read text , tur and speedometer and readouts for fuel and
    4:02temperature there are also the expected trouble and transmission indicators the
    4:07door mounted passive seatbelt can be unbuckled and used normally that makes
    4:12it easier to operate the manual seat adjustments but we expected more seat
    4:16adjustments with the high-dollar lxi trim level support is good but some of
    4:21our staff members complained about the hardness of the seat cushions an
    4:25adjustable steering column is standard on all accord coops we do object to the
    4:30cutouts and plugs here in the - but we like the way often use controls are
    4:35located
    4:36everything in the accord coupe is right where it should be the same goes for the
    4:40ventilation and heating all buttons and levers are well marked and lighted
    4:44making the accord one of those cars that you can operate without much orientation

    5:13more than we expect in any coupe headroom won't be a problem for most
    5:17average-sized adults either
    5:19we are also impressed with the comfort of the 3-point rear belts for outboard
    5:23passengers for when luggage is the priority
    5:26the rear seat can be folded down for security there's a rear seatback lock
    5:30the seed however is not split so you can't mix and match combinations of
    5:35passengers and cargo
    5:36we're not complaining just noticing the trunk seat back down or not is flat and
    5:42roomy s.coups go and the deck lid drops to bumper height for easy lift over
    5:47as for over the road concerns the accord coupe produces a low 66 decibels of
    5:53Interior noise at 55 miles per hour
    5:56yet we noticed some tire noise that sounded louder than our meter indicated
    6:00ride quality is good for a car of this size and weight but we were more
    6:04impressed with the coop straight line stability at high speeds
    6:08it's epa rating is 23 city 29 highway we experienced a terrific
    6:1430 in typical driving the honda accord coupe hit us just write with its
    6:19harmonious styling roomy interior practical control layout and as with
    6:24nearly all hondas we drive its nimble and stable feel but we were disappointed
    6:29with the coop sloppy feeling automatic transmission
    6:32we also think its power steering should be made to communicate more Road field
    6:36at low speeds for comparison mazda mx-6 GT cost about a thousand dollars more
    6:42than the accord lxi it offers much higher turbo performance but it lacks
    6:47the Accords handling refinement
    6:49Ford's probe LX offers acceleration similar to the accord but for about
    6:53fifteen hundred dollars less yet braking is not as good and the probe has fewer
    6:58standard power and convenience features but we wonder how many people will
    7:03really comparison shop if they are considering an accord coupe hondas are
    7:08quickly developing the same kind of marketplace exclusivity that BMW and
    7:13mercedes-benz have enjoy
    7:15for some people it's a honda or nothing the accord coupe gives them one more
    7:20reason to have that attitude
